Looking at a big goal as a “big goal” is the single biggest reason why most people don’t accomplish most of the things they don’t accomplish.
Here are some examples of how this “big” thinking gets in your way:
- If you think about losing 50 pounds, you’ll probably never do it. However, if you think about losing 5 pounds, it’s much more likely you’ll accomplish it, and do it again and again and again until you’ve lost 50 pounds.
- If you think about paying off $10,000 in credit card debt, you’ll probably never do it. But, if you resolve to stop using them (i.e. don’t add more to the debt), and pay $400 per month consistently, you’ll be amazed at how quickly you see significant dents being made in the balances until you are debt free.
- If you want to write a best-seller, do you call Random House today and tell them to get ready for you? Of course not, you need to write the first sentence, and then write the second, and so on until you have a book.
Tell me…when you want to get to the top of a staircase, do you jump straight to the landing? Of course not, you step on…
