You cannot think your way into being confident — although learning how to talk to yourself in a supportive and positive way is key to self-confidence.

You cannot talk your way into being confident — if you’re ‘all talk,’ people will quickly find out that your words are not who you are, but rather who you want to be.

The one thing that builds self-confidence is action. The more action you take, the more evidence you have that you can do things. The more evidence you have to show that you can do things, the harder it is to say that you can’t.

Experience builds confidence.

Here are three ways to have more experiences starting right now:

1. Take Nike’s advice and Just Do It! Replace thinking and talking with doing.

2. Confront and flip your self-talk. Every time you think to yourself, “I can’t do that,” immediately say to yourself, “I will do that.” Getting in the habit of supporting yourself will move you to do more.
