Face It, You May Just Not Want to Do It (and that’s OK!)
Have you ever noticed that there are things nobody has to tell you to do, you just go do them?
Why are some things like that, and others are not?
The obvious answer is that, when you actually want to do something, nobody needs to tell you to do it. Motivation is easy when it’s something you want to do.
But life is filled with things we don’t necessarily want to do, but have to take care of anyway, regardless of how we feel about them.
Making ourselves do something is not so straight forward when we don’t want do it.
Here are three reasons why we typically don’t want to do things, and what to do about that.
One is that we know we’d like to do something, but we don’t know much about it and, therefore, can’t make any decisions as to how to go about doing it. That keeps us stuck where we are.
When that happens, the remedy is to start educating yourself, start learning, start researching or talk to other people who do that thing already. Start observing and taking notes. Put simply — just start.
The second reason we don’t do something is, we might have total clarity on what it is we want to do, but we’re not taking action because we’re not sure what the next step is.
